The Lovell Quinta Arboretum was created by Sir Bernard Lovell, founder of Jodrell Bank, as a private garden.  He planned many of the features on the site to commemorate important events in his own life and that of his family, such as the Reith Avenue, an elegant sweep of red-twigged limes.  These were planted in the 1950s to commemorate Sir Bernard’s series of Reith lectures for the BBC.

The Arboretum is now home to a wide variety of trees and shrubs, including three national collections (oak, ash and pine).  As well as a place of scientific and educational interest, it is a haven for walkers and wildlife lovers.  Seasonal features include thousands of bulbs in spring, Rhododendrons in the summer and acers and euonymus in the autumn. The lake was completely restored in spring 2023.

Our silent space is a hidden haven , set in a copse of mixed trees.  There are two benches, bright flowering bulbs in the spring and a canopy of leaves in the summer.  We’re delighted to be part of the Silent Space initiative, as our aim is to encourage an appreciation of nature and of our beautiful and unique space.
