The Garden
Explore over 300 acres of gardens and parkland to discover ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, and lakes, bustling with birds. There are plenty of places to pause and enjoy the tranquil spaces which include a walled kitchen garden with a spectacular climbing ‘Iceberg’ rose.
The espaliers of rare heritage pear trees bordering the orchard’s wildflower paths and peaceful benches are inspired by the original Georgian plans by garden designer and author of The Practical Fruit Gardener, Stephen Switzer.
The Pleasure Grounds are north of the west lawn. Here, woodland paths and lakeside walks allow visitors to enjoy nature in an informal way, taking in cascades and the Druid’s bridge. A stroll around the far side of the lake will take you through a gothic archway to the historic menagerie garden created in 1743.
The Silent Space
The Silent Space can be found off the main path that winds through the Pleasure Grounds. We recommend taking a seat on the bench overlooking the lake and watching the birds, wildlife, rippling water, and swaying trees. This tranquil spot is the perfect location to take some time out to reflect and connect with nature.
