RHS Wisley

The Garden

Wisley is the flagship garden of the RHS and one of the UK’s most visited gardens, attracting around one million visitors each year. Some 75 garden staff, 25 students, 4 apprentices and 100 volunteers help make a day at Wisley an amazing experience for our visitors.

The garden has expanded hugely over the years to its current size of 240 acres. Wisley is all about inspirational gardens rather than being a museum of plants and conservation.  We’re constantly assessing and updating our plants and planting schemes to ensure there’s always something new to excite and inspire.

The Silent Space

RHS Wisley has two Silent Space locations, offering quiet retreats in nature-rich surroundings.  One is in an area known as the ‘Wildwood’ which showcases a naturalised woodland area filled with native and near-native plants and their cultivars.  It is in a clearing just off the lower path between the Wellbeing and Wildlife Gardens at Hilltop and the ornamental woodland of Battleston Hill.  There are a few log stools surrounded by a dead hedge, with a backdrop of woodland shrubs and evergreens, giving an atmosphere of seclusion and retreat.

The second can be found within the Pinetum in a peaceful area along the riverside, set down from the footpath  following the River Wey.  In this beautiful and restful setting, take a moment to feel quietly connected to the river’s living landscape.  Quietly observing from one of the log seats, catch a glimpse of kingfishers and pause and rest in the tranquil atmosphere and natural setting.
