Chiswick House and Gardens

The Garden

Chiswick House and Gardens is a 65-acre green oasis in West London, free to roam from dawn to dusk all year round.  Chiswick House and Gardens Trust, a registered charity, manages the Grade 1-listed gardens and house.  The charity’s mission is to conserve historic, horticultural, and natural heritage for our visitors, sustain and improve our biodiversity and support our local community’s health and wellbeing.

The 65-acre gardens are undergoing a transformation programme, enabling their historic character and beautiful spaces to be enjoyed.  A key focus has been our 19th century rosary, believed to be the first ‘English rose garden’ planted for scent and colour.

The Silent Space

The Chiswick House and Gardens’ Silent Space is in the Rosary, in a corner of the renowned 18th century landscape garden.  It’s a space with a choice of seating areas, places to dwell in sun or shade. It encourages reflection, quiet and contemplation.  The planting includes over 200 historic variety roses surrounded by grassland meadow areas, wide beds of rich woodland planting with a backdrop of mature trees.
