Thorp Perrow Arboretum has one of the best collections of shrubs and trees in the North of England. It holds the national collections of Ash, Lime , Laburnum, Walnut and Cotinus. With 100 acres of planting to explore, there’s plenty to keep the green-fingered visitor happy. But it’s equally enticing for families – it has one of the largest Bird of Prey and Mammal Centres in the north and an exciting adventure playground.
In spring, snowdrops, crocuses and thousands of naturalised daffodils lift the spirits. They’re closely followed by carpets of bluebells and clouds of fragrant blossom. As summer turns to autumn, the woodland trails are ablaze with colour.
The Silent Space
Silent Space is held in Autumn Bay 1. Although planted especially for autumn colour, this area has a tranquil beauty throughout the year and is home to an array of wonderful plants, fungi and wildlife.
